How to
Make sure that your pocket square and your tie are matching.
Iron the pocket square carefully if necessary.
Fold it using one of the methods described below.
Use a flat surface, and make sure it’s clean.
After completing the selected folding method, use your thumb and forefinger to slip it into your pocket. Make sure it is tucked all the way to the bottom of the pocket and smooth it out so there are no creases or unwanted wrinkles.
Folding techniques
1. Straight fold (Presidential Fold)
Instructions:
- Lay the pocket square on a flat and clean surface.
- Fold the pocket square in half.
- Fold one side up. The size of the fold depends on how deep your jacket's pocket is.
- Tuck the folded pocket square into your breast pocket so that about 1/4 of an inch is visible.
2. One point fold (One tip up)
Instructions:
- Start by laying the pocket square on a flat and clean surface.
- Fold one corner in so that you get two overlapping triangles.
- Fold one side of the triangle in.
- Do the same on the opposite side.
- Finally place the pocket square in your jacket's pocket.
3. Two point fold (Two tips up)
Instructions:
- Place your pocket square on a clean and flat surface.
- Fold one side over in a way you get two overlapping triangles.
- A preferred look is having one tip higher than the other (see illustration below).
- Now fold one side in.
- Do the same on the opposite side.
- Place your folded pocket square in your breast pocket and you are done.
4. Crown fold (Three tips up)
Instructions:
- Lay your pocket square on a flat and clean surface.
- Fold one side in so that you have two overlapping triangles.
- Fold the bottom corner up so it will be on the same height as the top corner (thus creating 2 tips).
- Fold in the opposite side the same way (this will be the third tip).
- Place the folded pocket square into your pocket and you are done.
5. Puff fold (Casual fold)
Instructions:
- Place the pocket square on a flat and clean surface.
- Now pick up the pocket square by pinching it near the centre.
- Slide the hanky trhough your other hand as shown on picture #3.
- Now flip the pocket square upside down.
- Finally tuck the pocket square in your breast pocket. Don't over-think this fold, the fold should look casual and a bit uneven.
6. Flower fold
Instructions:
- Form a ring with your thumb and index finger and place the pocket square over your hand.
- Push the pocket square into the ring with your other index finger.
- Grasp the fabric you’ve just depressed with the hand holding the pocket square.
- Holding the fabric in place, twist the fabric clockwise.
- When you get your desired look, clinch the fabric down to hold it in place.
- Finally tuck the pocket square in your breast pocket.
7. Staircase fold
Instructions:
- Place the pocket square on a flat and clean surface.
- Fold the pocket square in half.
- Fold the front fold down as shown on the picture below.
- Fold the same fold back up as illustrated below.
- Then fold it back towards the bottom.
- Now take the last bit of the fold, and fold it back towards the top. Be sure that your folding is neat and precise. You can gently iron it if it's needed.
- If your folding has the desired look (compare it to the illustration), you can fold the right side behind the left, but pay attention to symmetry.
- Finally rotate the right corner so the right angle is on the top. Then fold the left side to the right and the right side to the left.
- Your folding is ready so you can tuck the pocket square in your breast pocket.
